Is it just me, or is the internet a fickle pickle? Because I feel like last summer, it was all about telling me what do with with the abundance of zucchini and other summer squash I had at my disposal at the end of the summer. This year, it’s pretty much radio-silence. Which is ok, I suppose. But there’s still squash. Squash to be sliced and blanched and shredded. Squash to be baked and frozen and sautéed. A lot of squash. Quick. Before spring comes in earnest. Get in all of your comfort-food-eating. And your cheese-melting. And your warm spice toasting. Because spring is coming soon and it will be all strawberries and asparagus. I know it’ll be a month or two, or even three (God help us), before I’ll really be enjoying spring produce, but a girl can dream, can’t she? Hi. I’m back. I took a little hiatus for a week or so there, because with the holidays and all, it was just too much. Too much fun, too much running around, too much gorging myself on festive holiday food. All that. And more. But here I am, back at it, with a complete lack of originality in giving you a salad in time for your New Year’s resolutions. Don’t worry, since I’m still me, I’ll have a buttery, sweet confection for you in time to celebrate the Epiphany in a few days (and completely sabotage your resolutions). You’re welcome. If there’s a holiday that makes me feel warm and happy and nostalgic, it’s Thanksgiving. I feel about Thanksgiving the way that most people reserve for Christmas. Some of my happiest childhood memories revolve around Thanksgiving. Because of the food, yes. And because of big parties with family and friends, of course. But mostly, I really love Thanksgiving because of the time that I get to spend with my dad in the kitchen, helping him cook. [Read more...]
